How do I download a podcast from Podcast.com to my iPod (or other portable audio/video player?)

add to playlist

If you do have an iPod or other portable media device, you can just right-click the ‘DOWNLOAD’ link next to each podcast episode and “Save As” to download it to your desktop. Then, depending on how you set up your portable media device, you can move the podcast file to the folder your device is linked to when it syncs with your computer and – voila! – the podcast will appear on your device.

If you have an iPod, start by downloading the podcast from Podcast.com to your desktop as I described, then do the following:

  • Open iTunes
  • Using the ‘+’ button at the bottom left of the screen, or by clicking on New Playlist under the File menu, add a playlist in iTunes and name it ‘Podcasts’
  • Drag your podcast(s) from your desktop into this folder (it will simultaneously import it into your iTunes directory)
  • Connect your iPod to your computer; an iPod summary will pop up automatically in your iTunes window.
  • Under the Music tab, check the box next to the ‘Podcasts’ playlist so it will sync to your iPod
  • Click the Sync button at the lower right (if it doesn’t sync automatically) and disconnect your iPod when it’s finished syncing
  • On your iPod, click Music on the main menu, then Playlists, and you should see the ‘Podcasts’ playlist there

If this doesn’t get the podcast to your iPod or portable audio/video player, don’t fret –you can still listen to or watch the podcast on your desktop by double-clicking it, and it will play through the media player that came with your computer.
